UKIE Circuit Rundown LDN Esports

Introduction

This Sunday marks the end of the UKIE Ultimate Circuit, the first of its kind in the UK and Ireland. The circuit spanned 86 events of which there were 13 premiers and 2 majors all coming to and end on the 8th December with the top 16 players with another 4 players joining them through the Last Chance Qualifier on the 7th December. Both Peli and Afro Smash competed in a number of events all over the country in this period and this was their journey.

DAT BlastZone 29: The Premiere Premier

DAT team kicked off the circuit with their 29th BlastZone taking place in London with 128 entrants. Both Peli and Afro Smash were in attendance for the first event of the Circuit. Both players made it out of pools on the winners side of the Top 32 Double Elimination bracket. 

Afro Smash started the bracket strong before being knocked down to the Lower Bracket by Plastic Poptart and sadly being knocked out by SBF. Peli made it all the way to Grand Finals through the Winners Bracket, only dropping one game of a set, and making quick work in the Winners Final and Grand Finals with two 3-0 victories. Peli won the event, with Afro Smash pulling in at 9th position.

Fair Game 6

Next Afro Smash was off to Bristol for Fair Game 6, with 47 other players in attendance. Afro Smash had a very strong showing at this event, only losing one game of a set in Round Robin Pools coming out winners side into the Top 32 bracket where his strong run continued, not dropping a single game and moving on to the Top 8 bracket in winners side.

In the Top 8 bracket, Afro Smash made into Grand Finals after a close 3-2 victory in Winners Final, and quickly taking 1st place at the event 3-1.

Schism 3

Peli took a trip to over to Ireland for the first Irish event of the circuit, Schism 3 with 128 attendees. Peli had a strong showing in the Round Robin Pools, not dropping a single game and making it into the Top 32 Double Elimination bracket. Peli’s dominating streak continued, only dropping a single game of a set before moving onto Winners side of the Top 8 bracket.

Sadly, Peli was knocked down into Loser Bracket by Yetey, but after a strong Losers run Peli made it back into Grand Finals where he reset the bracket 3-0 for one final game. In a close Grand Finals Reset, Yetey took the victory 3-2 with Peli placing 2nd for the event.

Koopas Keep Ultimate 3

Wales was next on the agenda for Afro Smash. Koopas Keep Ultimate 3 took place in Cardiff with 43 entrants. Afro Smash had a strong showing again, only dropping one game in Pools before moving onto the Top 16 Double Elimination Bracket. He had a strong run before running into Dayman in Winners Final, who he had also faced in the Winners Final and Grand Finals of Fair Game 6, who knocked Afro Smash down to Lower Bracket after a 3-1 defeat.

Afro Smash quickly made it back into the Grand Finals after winning Losers Final 3-0. In the Grand Finals Afro Smash reset the bracket 3-1 and winning the bracket reset with a strong 3-0 victory placing him in 1st for the event.

WaveSmash Ultimate: Circuit Edition

Both Afro Smash and Peli took the trip down to Portsmouth to compete in WaveSmash’s first event of the circuit with 85 attendees. Again with strong Round Robin Pools showings, both players made into the Top 32 Double Elimination bracket without dropping a single game. Both players also made it through to the Top 8 Bracket with a single game loss in a set to their name.

Afro Smash and Peli both convincingly took their Winners Semi Final games only to meet in the Winners Final. After five close games, Peli took the set 3-2 knocking Afro Smash down to the Losers Final where he unfortunately lost 3-2 to Bulby. During the Grand Final, Peli took the set over Bulby 3-0 claiming 1st place with Afro Smash coming in 3rd for the event.

Fair Game 7

It was back to Bristol for another Fair Game tournament, with 81 entrants. This time however, both Afro Smash and Peli were in attendance. It was no surprise then that both players made it into Top 32 out of Pools without dropping a single game. Both players then made it through to Top 8 with no problems.

After strong showings in their Winners Semi Final games, Peli and Afro Smash met yet again in the Winners Final, with Peli taking the set 3-0 knocking Afro Smash down to Losers Final. He quickly rose back to the Grand Finals to rematch Peli but unfortunately was met with a 3-1 defeat.

Peli came 1st at Fair Game 7 with Afro Smash coming in 2nd.

Road to Regen

 Before the Regen Major, Team Regen put on a 64 person tournament in Birmingham which Afro Smash travelled to for the event. In an 8 person Round Robin Pool, Afro Smash didn’t drop a single game, quickly moving onto the Top 32 Double Elimination Bracket. In what was looking to be an unstoppable run, Afro Smash took all three games 2-0 to move onto the Top 8 bracket.

He then won his Semi Final game 3-0 moving into the Winners Final. In Winners Final, he finally dropped a game but still took the set in a convincing 3-1 victory, before taking the event in the Grand Finals, winning 3-0.

DAT BlastZone 30

Peli returned to London for the 30th edition of BlastZone with 128 entrants. Peli quickly moved onto the Top 32 bracket after taking every game in his pool 2-0. After two 2-0 victory in Winners Top 32, Peli was knocked down to the Losers Bracket during the Winners Quarter Final.

Moving into Losers Quarter Final, Peli won his first set 3-0, before a close 3-2 victory in the Losers Semi Final. Next up was the Losers Final, Peli would play against Scr7 in a close best of 5 where Peli unfortunately lost 3-2. Peli ended up in 3rd place for the event.

Eastern Front 3

Peli was off to Cambridge next to compete in Eastern Front 3 against 54 other entrants. After another strong Round Robin Pool showing, Peli moved onto the Top 16 Double Elimination Bracket without dropping a single game. 

He then had made it all the way to Grand Finals without dropping a game again, winning two sets 2-0, and winning the Winners Semi Final and WinnersFinal 3-0. He would then be facing off against Jaxter in the Grand Finals where Peli would eventually take the victory 3-2 in a close game and winning the event.

Fair Game 8: Birthday Bash

Back in Bristol again, Afro Smash attended the 8th edition of the 60 person Fair Game, with a strong showing in the Round Robin Pools once again, coming out into the Top 30 Bracket winning every set. Afro Smash then had two quick wins to move into the Top 8 Double Bracket.

In the Winners Semi Final, Afro Smash would struggle and be knocked down to the Losers bracket in a 2-0 defeat. Moving into the Losers Quarter Final, he would take a strong 2-0 victory before being knocked out of the event in the Losers Semi Final in a 2-1 defeat claiming 4th at the event.

Regen 2019

The first Major of the Circuit had come around hosted in Birmingham by Team Regen with 256 entrants. Both Peli and Afro Smash were in attendance for the event. With a prize pot of £2048, it was the biggest prize of the circuit so far. The first hurdle of the event would be for the players to make it out of the 8 person Round Robin pools.

With strong showings, both Peli and Afro Smash made it out of pools without dropping a set and moving onto the Top 64 Double Elimination bracket. Afro Smash would take his two games 2-0 to move into the Top 32 Double Elimination bracket on Winners Side, whilst Peli would take his first game in Top 32, 2-0 and the second game at 2-1 to move into Top 32.

Starting in Top 32, every set would be Best of 5. Afro Smash’s first game would be a 3-0 defeat against Streakz leaving him in Losers Bracket. He would win his first game in Lower Bracket 3-1 victory and second game 3-0. Unfortunately he would lose the next game against CurryGovernor in a close 3-2 defeat, just one game off of the Top 8 Bracket.

Peli managed to reach Top 8 on Winners Side, taking both games in Top 32 in a 3-1 victory. He would unfortunately be defeated by SBF in the Winners Semi Final 3-0 moving down into the Losers Bracket Quarter Final where he was defeated by Whoophee 3-0. Peli would finish the event in 5th place and Afro Smash would finish the event in 9th place.

Koopas Keep 5: The Spenpire Strikes Back

Afro Smash’s next event would take us back to Cardiff. Starting with a 6 person Round Robin pool, he had a strong showing yet again moving onto the Top 24 bracket with four 2-0 victories and a 2-1 victory. His first games within the Top 24 bracket would be two quick 2-0 victories.

Moving into the Winners Semi Final, Afro Smash would face demon_B in a close Best of 5 where Afro Smash would be defeated 3-2. Afro Smash would take the Losers Quarter Final in a convincing 3-0 victory before being knocked out by Spenpai in the Losers Semi Final in a close 3-2 defeat and claiming a 5th place position

Manchester Conquest 3

Afro Smash would then move onto his next event in Manchester with a 96 person event. Afro Smash would win his first game in a 2-0 victory, but unfortunately getting knocked down to Loser Bracket in his next game. He would win the next game in Losers to move onto the Top 32 Bracket, however in Losers Bracket.

Afro Smash would unfortunately lose his first game against Calzorz in a 2-1 defeat and take 25th place at Manchester Conquest 3.

Fair Game 9

It was back to Bristol again for Afro Smash to compete in Fair Game 9. He went strong into the event moving onto the Top 16 Bracket without dropping a game within the Round Robin Stage. Within the Top 16 Bracket, he quickly won both games 2-0 to move onto the Top 8 Bracket.

Afro Smash then won the Winners Semi Final 3-1, moving onto the Winners Final 3-1. He would then take on Zone in the Grand Finals, who he had defeated in the Winners Semi Final. Afro Smash took the game 3-1, winning the event overall.

Bailrigg 8

Peli travelled up to Lancaster for the 110 person Bailrigg 8. Peli won his first two games in the Double Elimination pool 2-0 to move onto the Winners Side of the Top 32 Bracket. Peli then won two more games in the Top 32 Bracket 3-0 to quickly move onto the Top 8 bracket.

Peli would unfortunately lose the Winners Semi Final 3-1 against Scr7 but would would win the Losers Quarter Final in a close game against Jaxter that ended 3-2. He would then go on to defeat both Aperture in the Losers Semi Final and Reecepect in the Losers Final for a rematch against Scr7 in the Grand Finals.

Peli decided to switch off King Dedede and used Sonic to try to answer Scr7’s Palutena. It worked out well for Peli as he managed to reset the bracket, defeating Scr7 3-1. However, Peli’s Sonic did not manage to defeat Scr7 in the Grand Final Reset, losing 3-1 and placing 2nd for the event.

Albion 4

Albion 4 was the second Major of the Circuit, being classed as a Super Major, taking place in London at The Emirates Stadium. With 895 entrants and a £10,740, it was a huge showing for the UK Smash Scene.

Afro Smash attended the event, starting the Double Elimination pool off strong with a 2-1 victory followed by another 2-1 victory. However, he would be stopped from moving into the Top 128 bracket on Winners Side by Greward, losing 2-0. However, he managed to make it out into Top 128 Bracket on the Losers Side. 

In the Top 128 Bracket, all games were Best of 5, and Afro Smash started off strong, winning 3-1 in his first game and 3-0 in his second game. The next game however would be close, Afro Smash went up against Shido losing 3-2, bringing his Albion 4 run to an end and placing 49th overall.

Fair Game 10

Afro Smash then returned to Bristol for Fair Game 10. In a four person Round Robin Pool,l he came out undefeated moving onto the Top 32 Bracket. In the Top 32 Bracket, he quickly won his first two games 2-0 and taking the last game before the Top 8 Bracket 2-1.

Afro Smash won the Winners Semi Final 2-1 before being knocked into the Losers Bracket after 3-2 against Zone in Winners final. He went on to win the Losers Final 3-1 and get a rematch against Zone in the Grand Finals. However, Afro Smash lost 3-1, taking 2nd overall.

Manchester Conquest 4

Peli’s next tournament took him to Manchester to compete in a 128 person event. In Pools, Peli took three quick 2-0 victories to move into the Top 32 Bracket on the Winners side of the bracket. Peli took his first game in the Top 32 Bracket with a 2-1 victory and took the second game in a 3-1 victory to move on to the Top 8 Bracket.

Moving into the Top 8 Bracket, Peli took the Winners Semi Final game 3-2. However he lost 3-0 in the Winners Final against Streakz. Moving into the Losers Final, Peli took the game 3-0 to face Streakz in a rematch in the Grand Finals. Peli unfortunately lost the Grand Finals game 3-0, taking second for the event.

South West Annual Takeover

Both Peli and Afro Smash returned to Bristol for the South West Annual Takeover. Both Afro Smash and Peli made it out of Pools into Top 32 with two quick 2-0 victories. Afro Smash won his first Top 32 game 2-0, with the second game being a close game against Zone with Afro Smash taking the game 3-2 and moving into Top 8 Winners Side. Peli won his first Top 32 game 2-0 as well and then moved onto Top 8 after a 3-1 victory.

Unfortunately, Afro Smash would lose their Winners Semi Finals game 3-2 against Scr7. However Peli would be victorious in his Semi Final game winning 3-2 but being knocked down to the Losers Final by Scr7. In the Losers Quarter Final, Afro Smash was knocked out of the tournament by Bulby, losing 3-2, with Peli being knocked out by Skips in the Losers Final after losing 3-1.

Peli finished the event in 3rd place with Afro Smash finishing in 5th.

Fair Game 11

Afro Smash was back at Fair Game 11, in what would be his last event before the UKIE Ultimate Circuit Finale. He would get two 2-0 victories to move onto the Top 32 Bracket on Winners Side where he would win his first game 2-0 before getting knocked down to the Losers Bracket by Junk Dog, but would move onto the Top 8 through the Losers Bracket.

Afro Smash would then go on an amazing Losers run in Top 8, winning his first game 3-1, winning the Losers Quarter Final 3-1, winning the Losers Semi Final 3-0 and then winning the Losers Final 3-1. However this was put to a stop by Zone in the Grand Final of the event where Afro Smash lost 3-0, taking 2nd for the event.

Bailrigg 9

Peli returned to Bailrigg for its’ 9th tournament, winning his two matches 2-0 to move into the Winners Side of the Top 24 Bracket. Peli won his Top 24 match 3-0 to move into the Top 8 Bracket in the Winners Side.

Peli would win his Winners Semi Final match 3-0 to face Scr7 in the Winners Final where he was defeated 3-1 and would be knocked down to the Losers Bracket. Peli would win the Losers Final 3-0 for a rematch against Scr7 in the Grand Final. He would win 3-0 against Scr7, resetting the bracket, however would lose 3-0 in the Grand Final Reset and placed second for the event.

BIG LAB #2

Peli was then back to London for BIG LAB #2, in his final event before the UKIE Ultimate Circuit Finale. Peli made it out of pools with two 2-0 victories and into the Top 32 Bracket. Peli’s first game in the Top 32 bracket ended with a 2-0 victory and the second in a 2-1 victory and moved onto the Top 8 Bracket.

Peli won his Winners Semi Final match in a close 3-2 game, with the Winners Final being a close 3-2 victory as well. Peli then moved onto the Grand Finals where he finished the event in 1st with a strong 3-0 victory.

UKIE Ultimate Circuit Finale

The Finale of the Circuit on the 8th December will consist of four 5 person Round Robin Pools with the last 4 players in each pool being decided at the Last Chance Qualifier the day before. The top 2 players from each pool with move into a Top 8 Double Elimination Bracket.

Peli finished the Circuit with 535 points, placing him 3rd overall. He is placed in the third pool with Steakz, Ander, Le Goat and a 4th player, currently unknown.
